What is Remembering a Lifetime?
We have created a complete kit that allows you to preserve your family memories and history in their own voice. Our kit is easy to use, senior friendly and contains everything you need including specially designed voice recorder and flip-book of 52 carefully chosen questions.
Why did we create Remembering a Lifetime?
We provide a way to preserve the stories and memories of your family for future generations to enjoy. Over the years you may have been told stories by the older generation of your family. Some of those stories have been forgotten, missing details, or just never find a way to be preserved for others. When those family members pass on, we are left with hazy memories and with the next generation, those memories will be mostly lost.
Who knows what you might discover! How many stories have we not heard at all? Either they are tucked away or the subject never comes up, or maybe we assume we’ve heard it all and never ask the right questions. Our questions are designed to uncover those memories.
Provide a backstory to family pictures and the family tree. You have a geneology with names, but missing stories behind the names. You have a boxes containing pictures of family and places, some which you have never met or seen and will never know without the backstory.
Get to know your family better. We have videos and movies of our parents, but they’re singing happy birthday at children’s parties, or opening Christmas presents. I treasure those pictures but they don’t reveal the person for who they really are and what they are about on the inside. You will know a person better if you know the road they’ve traveled.
Gather a comprehensive family history. This is not a product just for mom and dad, but what if you had this recording of all your older relatives. A definitive history of your family would be preserved when you have completed kits of aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.
Make seniors feel their history matters. In a day where the opinion of an older generation seems insignificant or out of touch, the idea that we are interested in the events of their life will show how much their lives matter.
Discover the history of our ancestor’s daily struggles. When we look back on a previous generation’s life we discover they faced the same challenges we face with work, family life, and daily tasks. We are likely to find we may not have it so bad ourselves.
A way for future generations to create a bond with their ancestors. What a way for our children and future grandchildren, to meet their ancestors by hearing their stories told in their own voice. This is a way to build relationships that otherwise wouldn’t exist.
Everybody has a story. The captivating stories of pain, victory, tragedy, success, fear happiness, or sorrow are not just found in books and movies. Our own heritage contains stories that could affect your family in amazing ways.
Who created Remembering a Lifetime?
Danny and Joy Boyd – We are the father and mother of a blended family of seven children. I come from a background in construction management and marketing, while my wife has homeschooled our children for the last 19 years. We realized that as we lost our grandparents, aunts, uncles and now parents, except for Joy’s mom, we needed a way to preserve our rich heritage for our children. They may not realize it now while they are young, but one day, this will be one of our children’s most treasured possessions. Our story is the same for so many who want to pass on their memories to future generations.
How Does Remembering a Lifetime work?
Your family member simply records the answers from the 52 question cards into the voice recorder. After recording, the file can be copied to your personal computer for distribution and archiving.
You can use the kit as an interview with one person asking the questions and your loved one answering as they are being recorded. This is a great opportunity for children to interact with older relatives. This would also be the way to collect the memories of an older relative who you feel might not be able to operate the recorder. Another way is to give the kit as a gift to that senior relative or friend for them to complete on their own.
The Voice Recorder
The recorder has been specifically designed to be senior friendly. The operating buttons are large in size, color coded, and shaped to describe their function. It has a high definition multi-directional microphone which allows it to be hand held or placed on flat surface. The recorder permanently stores up to 12 hours of recording into one file regardless of how many recording sessions. When completed, the single .wav file can be copied but will always remain on the recorder. This was done to prevent accidental erasing or deleting the file. The recorder allows for incremental rewind and fast forwarding to be able to playback that “special story” but when the recording button is pressed the file will always begin where the last recording ended. The internal battery is rechargeable with the enclosed USB cable.
The Interview Questions
The questions are printed in a large easy to read font on a spiral bound flip-book. For each question there is an accompanying “Tell Us More” card offering hints and topics to be covered for each question. These are included to help unlock as many memories and stories as possible, not only the details of the events but the feelings and emotions from the interviewee’s perspective.

What are the details of the Remembering A Lifetime launch?
We have the design for the voice recorder completed but need to complete the technical and electrical design needed for manufacturing. Since there are no voice recorders available that are senior friendly, we’ve had to design the contract with an electrical engineer to design the circuitry from the ground up.
In order to complete the design and production of our first order we are launching a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Our launch date is October 18th and we will have 30 days to reach our goal. Our goal is to raise $75,000 to complete an order of 2,000 units. We are offering a kit from our first production order for each $40 backing. For a backing of $400.00 we will provide a kit and two copies of an printed autobiography. Delivery of the first production order will be Spring 2017.
People can sign up for launch and production updates on our website: rememberingalifetime.com
